Residential Diagnostic Care for Children

Kinship Children's Home – established in 2004, our ten (10) bed diagnostic home, located in Dansville, NY Offers high quality, temporary community based residential care and diagnostic services to children (boys and girls) between and including the ages of 5 to 12 years, in a safe, nurturing, comfortable and therapeutic environment.

The home is an alternative to in-patient psychiatric hospitalization or other placement not clinically appropriate for children. Services are provided for children who demonstrate varying degrees of emotional and behavioral disorders and require temporary residential care for screening and diagnosis.

Each child in care receives comprehensive diagnostic testing and evaluation by our clinical team. This includes a psychosocial assessment of the child and family, medical screening, psychological assessments, psychiatric evaluation, educational assessment and milieu assessment.

Prior to each child's discharge, the referring agency will receive a comprehensive, written diagnostic report with the findings from the child's evaluation. This report will contain recommendations for the continuing care of the child and family. These recommendations will aid the referring agency in assisting the family with their child's return to home, school and community, or the child's placement in an appropriate level of care.

Healthy Families Program

Our in-home visiting services provide parent support, nurturance, and early childhood education to over three hundred expectant mothers and new parents with infants under the age of three months in Steuben County, annually. We served two hundred and sixty-three (263) mothers with their children during 2003. Today, we continue to serve over two hundred (200) families on a daily basis. Serves: Steuben County.

Family Preservation Services / SHAPE

Our Supportive Home and Parent Enrichment (SHAPE) program provides in-home guidance, instruction and support to parents with children at risk of out-of-home placement because of neglect or abuse. Our staff are visiting families in their homes, providing individualized instruction tailored to the parents' learning capabilities. We focus upon: effective parenting, child development needs, safe and constructive discipline techniques, basic life skills, family management and building self-esteem and self-confidence as parents.

Foster Care Services

Our therapeutic foster homes specialize in the care of children with emotional and behavioral health care needs. Presently, we are serving forty (40) children among our forty-three (43) certified foster homes. There are many more children needing the special care and support that only a loving and supportive family can give. Thus, we are conducting a number of home studies of prospective foster families, for these children. For a family considering becoming a Kinship foster home or an adoptive home, they may contact us @ (607) 324-0909.

During 2002-03, our foster care program cared for one hundred and fourteen (114) children from the age of 1 day to 18 years who came to us from six counties across the region. Among the children we served, four (4) children were adopted by four (4) of our therapeutic foster families.

Reunification Services

Begun in December of 2001, we are providing aftercare services to children who are transitioning from foster care and returning to their families and community. Our staff provide intensive casework support to fifteen (15) children and their families. They serve as the “bridge” between the foster care placement and the community, working closely with child and parents, the home school districts, and other human service agencies who will provide the permanent support needed to prevent their child's future foster care placement.

Child Health Services

An integral component of our foster care program is our Child Health Services. Funded by Medicaid, we strive to assure the provision of quality, comprehensive, medical, dental, mental health and other health related specialty services to every child served by our foster care program.

Summer Camp For Special Children's

As an adjunct program of SHAPE-builders in Yates County for the past three years, Kinship has served as lead agency for the Coordinated Children's Services Initiative (CCSI) consortium; organizing and conducting a six week, 18 day, summer educational and recreational experience for sixty (60) children throughout the County who have special emotional and behavioral handicapping conditions.

Chemical Dependency Services

“To enhance the individual's capability to contribute to a family environment: a safe and secure atmosphere based on mutual love, care, support, guidance, discipline, and compassion.”

Our eighteen (18) bed Community Residence located in Bath, N.Y. offers a spacious and peaceful residential setting for individuals eighteen years of age and older, as they continue their recovery from alcoholism and other chemical addictions. It is the first step for many in their return to family and community life.

Following their stay, at the Community Residence, we offer supportive apartments for persons who are ready for community living and who would gain from additional support of our certified counselor. Kinship Family and Youth Services
